IT STARTED OUT AS A SKETCH ON THE BACK OF A FAG PACKET, MOVED ON TO PAPER ON THE DRAWING BOARD , AND HERE YOU ARE THE FINISHED ARTICLE . FANTASTIC. πππ

“Great model, thought it looked like a paper and plaster construction . So added the pun reference paper drawing etc.Β Β d”, so wrote my pal and old Primary School friend, John McCarron.
He was referring to his response to these photos of my neighbour Ros’s formerly rusty solar powered (the headlights come on at dusk) model of a VW Beetle car garden ornament.
Many big ideas such as car designs, paintings,,novels, movies are said to have begun as an idea scribbled on the back of a cigarette pack in a noisy pub or cafe.
This is not one of them.
You have met my neighbour Roslyn before through my blogs, and YouTube v ideos. She is lovely, kind, funny, and what we caΔΊl “a one-off”.
Ros is the first to tell you she is not a gardener, but her growing collection of self-sufficient succulents is gradually being equalled by her growing collection of non-growing solar garden ornaments.
Some now represent a health and safety issue as they form an ankle-breaking guard of honour up to her front door. Apart from the large flying pig atop her outdoor coffee table (table made by a 90 year-old neighbour John – deserves a mention) most are inexpensive bits of fun that stare balefully in at her when she looks out at night. Gives me the creeps but whatever floats your boat…
Anyway, her favourite, the V-dub, was starting to rust due to the salty sea air, I had just finished chiq-uing up my shabby chic outdoors stools and had a bit of leftover paint and the urge to graffitti something.
I had mentioned giving it a protective paint job before, which had been met with mild enthhusiasm, it was a lovely summer morning out in the courtyard, so I grabbed the white paint, the last of tube of blue acrylic, coloured sparkle glue in 5 small tubes, sparkly nail polish, and set to at my outdoor table (made by K-Mart).
Soon I was in the zone of car detailing, not letting my impaired vision get in the way of a piece of art.

This is a priceless piece of art illustrating how I now see faces through Macular Degeneration and cataracts.
45 mins later the Volkswagen rolled out of my improvised paint shop looking very ‘hippified’ aand cute. With my initials in the bottom right corner.
You work it out!
Fortunately Ros came home, spotted it back on her table, and was very happy.

And that is what it is all about.

They are everywhere!

It seems V-Dubs (short for VW or Volkswagons, the original people movers) are quietly lighting all four mythical corners of the globe. Ours is Down Under in Australia while this cutie lights a home study in UK in the Northern Hemisphere. Any more?
Thinking BIG!
